    Functions and Features

    An HSNQ2 board receives mixed signals of STM-16/STM-64/OTU2/OTU2e services with the total bandwidth not higher than 40 Gbit/s from the backplane, encapsulates them into ODU0/ODU1/ODU2/ODUflex units, and transmits them out through optical ports.

    An HSNQ2 board provides different functions and features, depending on the received signals. Table 1, Table 2, and Table 3 list the functions and features supported by an HSNQ2 board.

    Cross-connect mode

    OTN mode: 40 Gbit/s access capacity at maximum.

    SDH mode: 40 Gbit/s access capacity at maximum. The access capacity varies with the slots. For details, see Slot Capacity for HSNQ2.

    SDH+OTN hybrid mode: 20 Gbit/s SDH + 20 Gbit/s OTN at maximum. The access capacity varies with the slots. For details, see Slot Capacity for HSNQ2.

    Basic functions

    Receives and processes four-channel OTU2/OTU2e signals.

    • OTN mode: Multiplexes 32-channel ODU0, eight-channel ODUflex, 16-channel ODU1, or four-channel ODU2 signals into four-channel ODU2 services.
    • SDH mode: Multiplexes signals from 16 STM-16 or four STM-64 virtual optical ports into four-channel ODU2 services.
    • SDH+OTN hybrid mode:

      Multiplexes signals from eight STM-16 or two STM-64 virtual optical ports into four-channel ODU2 services.

      Multiplexes 16-channel ODU0, four-channel ODUflex, eight-channel ODU1, or two-channel ODU2 signals into four-channel ODU2 services.

    NOTICE:

    Licenses control the board capacity. One license allows a 10 Gbit/s capacity. Up to four licenses can be loaded to an HSNQ2 board. That is, an HSNQ2 board supports a maximum of 40 Gbit/s capacity.

    The capacity of an HSNQ2 board is the sum of the OTN service capacity and SDH virtual port capacity.
    • OTN service capacity: ODU2 (10 Gbit/s), ODU1 (2.5 Gbit/s), ODU0 (1.25 Gbit/s), and ODUflex-n (nx1.25 Gbit/s).
    • SDH virtual port capacity: STM-16 (2.5 Gbit/s) and STM-64 (10 Gbit/s).
    Cross-connect capabilities

    Each 10 Gbit/s line independently receives and transmits ODU2/ODU1/ODU0/ODUflex signals.

    Supports hybrid access of ODU0, ODU1, and ODUflex signals.

    Optical module
    • Supports the 0.3 km 10G multi-mode XFP and 10 km/40 km/80 km 10G single-mode XFP optical modules.
    • Supports the 70 km CWDM, 40 km/80 km DWDM, and 40 km DWDM wavelength-tunable optical modules.
    • Switches lasers on or off and provides automatic laser shutdown (ALS).

    Synchronization

    The SDH virtual optical ports (STM-16/STM-64) support physical clocks.

    Supports physical-layer clock synchronization when the board receives ODU0/ODU1/ODUflex signals cross-connected from the backplane.

    FEC codingSupports FEC and EFEC.

    • Supports smooth upgrades of board software.
    • Monitors and reports voltage performance.
    • Supports PRBS for the ODU2 channel on the WDM side.

    Limitations on virtual SDH ports
    • Supports a maximum of 16 STM-16 ports and four STM-64 ports, with a total bandwidth not higher than 40 Gbit/s.
    • Virtual ports are classified into four groups: ports 51-54, 55-58, 59-62, and 63-66. Ports in one group must carry services of the same granularity. That is, if STM-16 services are configured for a port, the other ports in the group cannot carry STM-64 services.

    • STM-64 services can be configured only on ports 51, 55, 59, and 64. If these ports have been occupied by STM-16 services, no STM-64 service can be configured.

    • Ports in the same group are preferentially used to carry STM-16 services. For example, if three ports are required by STM-16 services, ports 51 to 53 are used; if seven ports are required, ports 51 to 57 are used.
    • In SDH+OTN hybrid mode, only two groups of virtual ports are available. Any port used in either group occupies 10 Gbit/s SDH capacity.
